Free Film Shares Show Business Theme with Upcoming Comedy at Westport Country Playhouse

To kick off its production of the show business farce "Room Service," Westport Country Playhouse will host a free film screening of another backstage comedy, "Bullets Over Broadway," directed by Woody Allen, on Sunday, October 6, 4 p.m., in the Playhouse's Sheffer Studio. The screening is free-of-charge by reservation through the Playhouse box office at 203-227-4177. Free popcorn and beverages will be available.

Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director and director of "Room Service," will introduce the film. An informal discussion will immediately follow the screening.

"Bullets Over Broadway" stars John Cusack, Jennifer Tilly, Chazz Palminteri, Mary Louise Parker, Jack Warden, Rob Reiner, Tracey Ullman, Harvey Fierstein, Edie Falco, and Dianne Wiest, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the film.

Combining gangsters with show business, "Bullets Over Broadway" is about a young, struggling playwright trying to mount his show on Broadway. To get financing, he is forced to cast a mobster's talentless girlfriend who happens to have a bodyguard who comes up with genius ideas to improve the play.

With similar themes, the Playhouse's production of "Room Service" is a madcap comedy about a producer and his ragtag bunch of cohorts who try to raise money for a Broadway show as they scramble to evade their hotel bill, written by John Murray and Allen Boretz, playing October 8 – 27.

"Room Service" Production Sponsors are Barbara and John Samuelson. Corporate Production Partners are Cohen and Wolf; KPMG; and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, The Bender Financial Group.
