Public Speaking Workshop for Teens Begins Oct. 28

Southport, CT – What the world needs now are effective leaders. It needs responsible leaders in our communities, our cities, our country and the world. Good leaders are needed in the workplace, in government, and in charitable organizations. Who will become the leaders of the future? Many people would say it is the teenagers of today.

S4 Study Skills, LLC, located in Southport, CT, will present a S4 Public Speaking Workshop: Finding Your Voice at Pequot Library starting on Tuesday, October 28, from 6:00pm - 7:30pm for three Tuesday nights plus three Sunday afternoons, starting November 2. This six-week course is for 8th – 12th graders. Public speaking activities help teenagers build self-confidence. The skills of speaking clearly, professionally, and with respect for self and others can resonate across every avenue of their world for years to come.

Benefits include: the power of winning and keeping the audience's attention; the importance of clarity in word choice; telling the story in sequential order; and technical tricks for using eye contact. Body language and using technology to aid rather than distract the audience are also part of the curriculum.

This 10.5-hour course for 8th-12th graders on the preparation, presentation and presence needed for public speaking develops leadership skills needed in school and beyond for lifelong confidence. The six session program (enrollees are expected to attend all) will be held on: Tuesdays: 10/28, 11/4, 11/11 from 6:00-7:30pm, and Sundays: 11/2, 11/9, 11/16 from 1:30-3:30pm.

S4 Public Speaking Workshop: Finding Your Voice is taught by Stephen Stout, a veteran of the professional stage as both actor and director and currently in his thirteenth year as Director of Theatre Programs at Greens Farms Academy in Westport. He teaches grades 8-12 with a full curriculum of theatre studies and directs all the upper school productions. He is the Former Artistic Director of Passage Theatre in New Jersey, founding Artistic Director of Fairfield Theatre Company, he has acted on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in many regional theatres across the country, including are among his credits, a smattering of TV, film and commercials.

Registration is now open for this program presented by S4 Study Skills, LLC. Founded in 2010, S4 has been dedicated to providing educational skills workshops to students from grades 6 through 12 as well as private tutoring in study skills. S4 has customized study skills workshops, from basic to advanced, in over 30 Connecticut and New York area schools, including public, private, parochial and charter.
