Fairfield Installs New Bike Racks

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Town of Fairfield has installed two new bike racks located in front of Fin at 1241 Post Road and the Community Theater at 1424 Post Road. These two bike racks are the first of five bike racks to be installed around town, the remaining three bike racks will be installed by mid-December.

Fairfield residents and community members are urged to use the new bike racks. “These bike racks represent Fairfield’s movement towards a bike friendly community by giving cyclist a place to safely “park” their bikes around town” said Santina Galbo, Health Educator for the Town of Fairfield Health Department.

Biking is not only a form of transportation but also a form of physical activity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults who engage in at least 150 minutes of physical activity a week, improve their overall health, live longer, and lower their risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers. The Town of Fairfield and Fairfield Health Department will continue to work with other organizations to promote biking and walking to help provide ways for residents and community members to be active in Fairfield.

The purchase of the bike racks was made possible through the 2013-2014 Local Health Department Block Grant for Policy/Environment Change for Chronic Disease Prevention.

For questions about the bikes racks or for more information, please contact Santina Galbo, Health Educator for the Town of Fairfield Health Department at 203-256-3150.
