“First Snow”
I love the first snow and, as a child, I would wait in eager anticipation every December, eyes glued to the weather report on TV, wondering when I would see fuzzy snowflakes adorning the weatherman’s map. Since the recent snowfall only lasted for a few minutes, to mimic that in a sense, I challenged myself to see if I could create a poem in less than two minutes. This is the result —a poem about snow-- written in less than two minutes.
really is nothing
quite like the peace of the
first snow. Wide-eyed children rapt
by the soft pearls glistening on the sidewalks.
A twinkle of excitement, anticipation even, in the eyes of a little girl
circling the pond-turned-ice-rink. Hands covered with red mittens,
she deftly transforms a fistful of snow into a
snowball. The air is electric with happiness
for the holidays. No, there is
nothing quite like the
first snow.
