Youth Leader Amy Wolff told Westport's Sunrise Rotary Club Friday, June 12th “what’s on my heart” about a mission project in Chiquilá, Mexico of which she has been a part since she was a student at Christian Heritage School in Trumbull in 2002.
She immediately “fell in love” and “kept making my school go back every year.”
Chiquilá is a mere two hours from the hotel strip in Cancun, but enjoys none of its benefits. Wolff described the area as “second world” today. But when she and ten other girls first got off the bus it had neither running water nor electricity. She added that little kids who had never seen seen “a girl with blond hair” ran up to her just to touch her hair.
Her mission helps “transform the village’s youth into intentional and influential leaders who will change their communities, their culture and their country.”
Wolff has also served on missions in Ethiopia, Liberia, Nigeria, Argentina and Colombia. She holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration with a specialization in Non-Profit Management.
Amy Wolff is a true social entrepreneur and an outstanding example of Service Above Self, the motto of Rotary International.
