Pequot Library Offers New Wellness Programs

Southport, CT – Pequot Library continues to offer health and wellness programming in 2016. The first is a Wellness Wednesday program taught by Donna Brown, M.S. titled, What a Nutritionist Wishes You Knew on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. The next are two Qigong workshops led by Julie Moffat, Qigong and the Immune System on Friday, February 26, 2016 and Qigong and Sleep, Friday, March 11, 2016.

Donna Brown, M.S. leads her seminar titled, What a Nutritionist Wishes You Knew, where she will share her “tried and true” tips on how to use kitchen nutrition and other lifestyle choices to successfully lose weight, sleep better, beat stress, and support the body's brain, bones, liver, gut and kidneys. Ms. Brown will show you how easy it is to ditch some of the bad habits and adopt healthier ones that will help you to look and feel better in 2016. Donna Brown is a clinical nutritionist and principal of the Nutrition Kitchen LLC, her private practice which is dedicated to optimizing the health, lifespan, and performance of her clients. Brown has been sharing her nutrition and lifestyle knowledge for over a decade in private, and through her educational outreach, research, and writing and presentation work with medical doctors. She also runs group weight management, cleanse/detox, and Bone Up! programs throughout the year. She received her B.A. in Biology and Chemistry from Wheaton College, an M.S. in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport, and an M.B.A. in Finance and Accounting from the University of Connecticut.

For those also looking to get healthy through gentle exercise, Pequot Library offers two Qigong workshops taught by certified instructor, Julie Moffat. The first lecture is Qigong and the Immune System, Friday, February 26, 2016 from 9:30am – 11:00am and the second is Qigong and Sleep, Friday, March 11, 2016 from 9:30am – 11:00am. The immune system workshop focuses on Qigong movements and routines to build the immune system and help prevent falling prey to the common cold or flu. Participants of the sleep workshop learn specific Qigong forms to deeply relax and eliminate stress. A yoga mat, blanket, and small pillow are required for the sleep lecture. Team and discussion follow each workshop. Both workshops are $15 each and take place in Pequot Library’s Auditorium. Registration is open online at www.pequotlibrary.org.

Julie Moffat is certified through the Institute of Integral Qigong & Tai Chi. She has studied a variety of Qigong styles and is a member of the National Qigong Association. Ms. Moffat is also a certified Radiant Lotus Women’s Qigong teacher. She teaches Tai Chi & Qigong classes on Pequot Library’s Great Lawn starting in the Spring.
