Fred Hine, Ex-Marine & Fairfield Welder, Passes at Age 82

Fairfield, CT - Frederick Arthur Hine, Sr., age 82, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Annette "Dolly" Hine, was called by God to Heaven Wednesday, April 27th, 2016. He passed on while at his home, and surrounded by family and loved ones.

Fred dedicated his life to raising his three children and providing them with a loving and happy home. He gave everything of himself to ensure his children's wellbeing and success. He was a father who always sacrificed without hesitation, for the benefit of his children. Fred served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He bravely fought while defending our country in the Korean War. In 1952 he was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, as well as the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He maintained many of the Marine Corps values into his civilian life and instilled them in his children as well. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he faithfully began employment at Handy & Harman in Fairfield, CT., as a welder of precious metals for the next 45 years, until his retirement. His love for the Marine Corps was only second to his love for his wife, children and grandchildren. His family and friends will miss him beyond words but their love for him will last an eternity. He will forever remain in our hearts and our memories. Semper Fi Sergeant Hine!

Survivors include his three beloved children, Donna Marie Abraham, Frederick A. Hine, Jr. and his wife Mari Alice, and Kenneth Hine, Sr. and his wife Sonia; seven cherished grandchildren, Glenn Abraham, Nick Abraham, Megan Hine, Brooke Hine, Paige Hine, Kenny Hine Jr., and Andrew Hine,; brother, George Hine; sisters, Barbara McGee and Beverly Mealy; sister-in-law, Marion Jarkes and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his loving wife "Dolly" he was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Natalie Hine, brothers, Robert Hine and Charles "Buddy" Hine, and sister, Lucy Carignan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
