Longtime Fairfielder Irene Barry Passes, Age 88

Fairfield, CT -- Irene Peddle Barry, age 88 of Fairfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her 3 loving daughters in the wonderful loving care at the Jewish Home for the Elderly and with their truly amazing staff.

Irene was born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Mark and Mary (Carroll) Peddle, and resided in Fairfield for more than 50 years. She was a Graduate of Harding High School and went on to be employed at General Electric for nearly 20 years.

Irene is predeceased by her husband, Gerald A. Barry, whom she wed in 1963. Together they raised and are survived by 3 daughters: Patricia Gilmartin and husband Thomas of Marlborough, NY; Lori Keiser and husband Thomas of Fairfield, CT; and Janice Bulkley and husband William of Fairfield, CT. One of 12 children, Irene is predeceased by her brothers Joseph Peddle, Vincent Peddle, Mark Peddle, John Peddle & James Peddle, and her sisters, Mary Peddle, Dorothy Peddle Brown, Margaret Peddle Art, Rita Peddle, Alice Peddle Veranko and Catherine Peddle. She was the beloved Grandmother to Bailey & Ryan Gilmartin, Declyn & Lauren Keiser and Tyler & Lyndsey Bulkley and Great-Grandmother to Carli Gilmartin. She was the aunt, great aunt, great great aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Irene was loved by the neighborhood in which she raised her girls. The kids, now adults, still repeat her pearls of wisdom to this day. Irene will be remembered for her sense of humor and quick wit. She loved to spend time with her family, friends and neighbors. Her years on Farmington Avenue brought her great happiness. 

Friends are invited to attend her Funeral on Friday, June 24 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of the Assumption RC Church, Fairfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield, Friends may call on Thursday, June 23 at the Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave, Bridgeport from 4 to 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Jewish Senior Services, 175 Jefferson St, Fairfield, CT 06825 in Irene Barry's name. Without, this institution, her last years on this earth may not have been so incredibly peaceful and wonderful. We cannot thank the JHE enough for all they did for Mom over the years.
