Fairfielder Thomas Browne Jr. Passes, Age 71

Fairfield, CT -- Thomas F. Browne, Jr. age 71 of Fairfield, beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betsy" Peddle Browne, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 in St. Vincent's Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Tom was born in Bridgeport, son of the late Thomas F. and Julie Sullivan Browne and was a lifelong Fairfield resident. He was a graduate of Andrew Warde High School, class of 1963 and Sacred Heart University, class of 1968. Tom was a proud United States Naval veteran, serving during Vietnam and was a member of the American Legion Lt. Owen Fish Memorial Post 143. Tom retired as Town Assessor for the Town of Fairfield with over 28 years of service. Tom served as President of the CT Association of Assessing Officers, President of the Northeast Regional Association of Assessing Officers, and was named Assessor of the Year in 1994 and awarded the CAAO Distinguished Service Award in 2009. He was awarded the 1st Lifetime Achievement Award from the NRAAO. Tom had been an instructor at the UCONN Assessors School for over 27 years, mentored many assessors, and was instrumental in the implementation of computerized mass appraisal systems throughout the state of Connecticut. He was a member of the Sacred Heart University Pioneer Club and treasurer of the Alumni Council, a Pioneer Award winner, a Past President of the Fairfield Kiwanis Club, Past Chair of the Assumption Parish Council and a member of the Gaelic American Club and the International Association of Assessing Officers.

Survivors in addition to his devoted wife Betsy include a brother William S. Browne and his wife Patricia of San Diego, CA, a sister Geraldine A. Kubina of Santa Rosa, CA, his in-laws Joe and Beth Peddle of Fairfield, and his brother-in-law Joe Peddle and his wife Sheila, of Trumbull. Nieces and nephews include Mike, Courtney, Julianne, Laura, Callie and Nolan of CA, and Maddy Peddle of Trumbull.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m, meeting directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. His family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff of the ICU at St. Vincent's Medical Center.
