Fairfielder Edward O'Hara Passes, Age 87

Fairfield, CT -- Edward J. O'Hara, Jr., age 87, of Fairfield, the beloved husband of Rita O'Hara for over sixty-three years, died peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2016 in Bridgeport with his family by his side.

Born in Bridgeport to the late Edward, Sr. and Ethel O'Hara, Edward was a graduate of Fairfield Prep and received his B.A. from Fairfield University. He later went on to serve in the U.S. Navy stationed on a destroyer during the Korean War, where he achieved the rank of LT JG. Edward was extremely proud of his naval career aboard the USS Heermann. Edward was President of MCP Systems until his retirement. Prior to that, he was in sales with the Bridgeport Brass company.

Edward loved his family and was proud of his children and their accomplishments. He cherished his grandchildren and attended all of their games. He and his wife enjoyed travelling the world.
He also liked to golf and to cook. You could always find him talking and telling stories.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving children and their spouses; Richard and Tina O'Hara of Wyomissing Hills, PA, Karen and Toby Lovelett of Fairfield, Michael and Mary Grace O'Hara of Fairfield and Marianne and James Moran of Trumbull; his 15 grandchildren, Timothy and Jeffrey O'Hara, Robin Williams, Erin Zietz, Danielle and Christopher Lovelett, Stephanie, Alyssa, Jessica, Kayla and Matthew O'Hara and Alex, Lauren and Ashley Moran; 10 great grandchildren; his sister, Maureen Wetzel of Bonita Springs, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Michael O'Hara, Jr. and his brother John O'Hara.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Fairfield. Interment with full Military Honors to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may greet his family on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 3-7 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield.
