Fairfield Schools Invited to Mark Random Acts of Kindness

Fairfield, CT - International Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 12-18, 2017. Kindness Matters, a local Fairfield movement led by Veronica Mollica emphasizes how kindness creates a collective power that positively influences our families, schools, workplaces, and communities. This year, Mollica has asked the other elementary and middle school PTAs to join the movement as well. Both high schools in town also have kindness clubs and may participate, too. This is in keeping with this year’s theme of “Scatter Kindness.”

Mollica, along with other North Stratfield Elementary School parents, have developed a Kindness Matters campaign at the school which has been part of the PTA program for several years now. The guiding belief is that cultivating kindness with kids at an early age will foster an environment that is inclusive rather than exclusive. Although the group holds many events and activities throughout the year, International Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week is the perfect opportunity to involve the community and watch kindness become contagious.

North Stratfield students will be completing over 4,000 random acts of kindness during the week-long event. The fun will actually begin on Monday, Feb. 6 when the children receive a take-home activity sheet on which they are asked to complete all the activities before Monday, Feb. 13. Once a child has returned the sheet, they will receive a voucher from their teacher for a free soft serve cone from Saugatuck Sweets in Fairfield. For each voucher used, owner Al DiGuido, who also runs the non-profit Al’s Angels, will donate $1 to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. See www.kindnessmatters.net/fairfield for complete details.

Please note, the Bookmarks of Kindness excursion to the Fairfield Woods Public library on Thursday, February 16, 2017 has been cancelled.

Look for the Random Acts of Kindness Challenge promotional flyers around town.  Don’t forget to accomplish your own random act of kindness each day of the celebratory week. You can like the Kindness Matters Facebook page to download your own flyer and find more information at kindnessmatters.net and www.randomactsofkindness.org.
