Former Fairfielder Edith Filliettaz Passes, Age 90

Edith Walker Filliettaz passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at her home, as was her wish, attended by her loved ones.

Edie, as everyone called her, was born to May Camp Walker and Webster Upson Walker on May 6, 1926 in Bridgeport, CT. Edith attended the Uncawa School in Fairfield and went on to St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA and graduated from Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT. Continuing her education, Edie graduated from Finch College in New York City.

Edith married Bourne Upham, who fathered her three daughters. They lived in Bethesda, MD where she aided her husband's law and political career. Upon his death, she returned to CT to raise her daughters near family.

In 1969, she met and married Robert Filliettaz and they settled in Fairfield, CT. They relocated to Vero Beach 25 years ago where they made friends easily and became the 'life of the party.' Bob passed away in 1998.
Edith generously volunteered her time with many organizations over the years. Notably, she worked with the Junior League of Bethesda, MD, the Fairfield Women's Exchange in Southport, CT and the VNA Hospice in Indian River County, Fl.

A member of Riomar Country Club, Edie was an avid golfer and is remembered as a vibrant social member. Everyone enjoyed being in her company because she was just plain FUN! Edie's life revolved around her extended family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Robert E. Filliettaz, her brothers Harry Webster Walker II and Webster Upson Walker and her daughters Edith U. Smith, and Deborah U. Oldridge.

Those who survive her are her daughter Sherrard Upham Cote (Dan); her sister Virginia Walker Wier; her sister-in-law Joy B. Walker; and her son-in-law Michael Smith. Her other survivors include her six beloved grandchildren: Lindsay Smith Beaulieu (Eric), Drew Smith (Kristy), Charles Oldridge (Heidi), Margaret Oldridge Hartke (Brian), Sarah Cote Kossmann (Kurt), Dan Cote (Becca) and 10 great grandchildren, in whom she took so much pleasure.

A special person to mention and thank is her companion, caregiver, and friend Linda Penny who enhanced her life beyond words and whom we can never thank enough.

Edith's family extends their thanks for all of the support they have received from her many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Saint Augustine Episcopal Church, Vero Beach, FL, on Saturday April 29th at 11:00 a.m. with a reception immediately following at the Riomar Country Club.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Saint Augustine's Episcopal Church, 475 43rd Ave, Vero Beach, FL 32968 or VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960
