Fairfielder Fernand Couture Passes, Age 72

Fairfield, CT - Fernand Couture was born March 7, 1945 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Fern moved to Fairfield, CT when he was a boy where he attended St. Thomas Elementary and Ludlow High School. Fern grew up playing baseball and played Connie Mack League but passed up an opportunity to play "A" ball for the Yankees due to family obligations.

Fern loved bowling and was a marathon runner. Fern retired from the Stamford Advocate at the age of sixty five and soon after was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Fern lost his battle to Parkinson's in the company of family, peacefully, in home hospice on March 25th 2017.

Fern is survived by his sisters: Annette Couture Bisceglia, Jeannine Couture Garlock, Therese Couture Toth and his children Michele Couture Anderson, her husband Bruce, Michael Couture, Christopher Couture, his wife Amy, Father Jeffrey Couture (The Diocese of Bridgeport), and Fern's grandchildren Melissa, Christopher, C.J, and Lexi.

Visitation will be held Sunday April 2, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by his son, Rev. Jeffrey Couture will be held Monday April 3, 2017, 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1719 Post Road, Fairfield.

Fern will be interred at St. John's Cemetery. Monroe, CT.

Family and friends are welcome at Roberto's Restaurant 505 Main Street. Monroe, CT, 06468 immediately following interment.

Due to Fern's strong devotion to The Blessed Mother, in lieu of flowers, the family will receive Rosary prayer cards from (Perpetual Enrollments - National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception) and other Mass cards.
