Southport, CT -- Susan Ei, born in Detroit on April 3, 1952, was a multi-faceted woman who embraced all of humanity, animals, and the green earth with grace, gratitude, and an unbridled spirit; she was a true original. She transitioned during a raging rainstorm as if the universe were greeting her with wild abandon. She lived with a deep sense of adventure, fearlessness, and excitement.
Susan was the beloved mother of Lily Ei Zalon and Annie June Zalon. She was the deeply loved wife of Paul Zalon, sister of David Ei, Carol DeJong, Ellen Masta and Philip Willson.
Susan had an MA from the University of Michigan and was the Children's Librarian at the Pequot Library for the past 14 years. She and her assistant, Belle the Bunny, touched the lives of countless children and their parents. She knew how to play.
Susan was authentically wise and spoke from a place of love, acceptance, and joy. She expressed her opinions through actions rather than lengthy debates.
She created unique and welcoming spaces everywhere she went: at home, at work, while entertaining scores of family and friends. Like a painter and sculptor; she could weave a one of a kind tableaux in an empty room.
Her legacy to her daughters, Lily and Annie, was planting the seeds in them to move in the world with strength, confidence, imagination, intelligence, storytelling, appreciation for beauty and nature, authenticity, and a deep well of caring and loving.
