Hands On At Home Physical Therapy to Offer In-Home Personalized, Premium Care

Fairfield County, CT - For many people, scheduling physical therapy means a myriad of phone calls, difficulty in working the appointments into already packed schedules, and often sharing a therapist with multiple clients. Dori Nissenson, founder of Hands on at Home Physical Therapy, aims to reduce the hassle and deliver the utmost in convenience and quality by providing patients one-on-one, in-home physical therapy.

“People are busier than ever before,” says Nissenson. “And being in pain is an inconvenience. My goal is to not only make physical therapy easy to schedule, but to return my patients to superior function in the shortest amount of time. I maximize our time together by traveling to my patients and delivering intensive, hands-on treatment in the comfort of their own homes.”

With over 20 years of experience, Dori began her career at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she treated both pediatric and adult patients with a wide range of orthopedic and neurological diagnoses. This deep and diverse background gives Dori a unique perspective in how she approaches patients today.

“I believe in treating the whole person,” Nissenson explains. “As a first step, I perform detailed assessments of my patients in order to fully understand how their diagnoses impact their daily lives. Then I devise and execute integrative and individualized treatment plans aimed at optimal recovery.”

Results have been extraordinary. Connor Wills, sought out Nissenson after suffering a stroke two years ago. Under Nissenson’s care, Wills has gone from limping with a cane and a brace on his leg to walking without a support in one year. He calls her treatment a blessing.

“What sets Dori apart is that she takes the time to develop a customized plan for each therapy session that focuses on improving a patient’s specific weaknesses and fits into the longer-term plan for healing,” says Wills. “As a curious and analytical person, I appreciate how Dori explains each exercise, what it’s purpose is, and how it fits into her overall treatment plan. It’s very clear that a lot of time, care, and thought goes into each and every session plan.”

Nissenson’s command of anatomy, physiology, and movement enables her to understand the underlying causes of patients’ pain so that she can effectively treat the problem as well as help prevent its recurrence.

New York City runner Melanie Wright was suffering from chronic tendinitis in her left foot. She consulted multiple doctors and received different diagnoses, but remained in pain. A friend suggested she reach out to Nissenson and Wright is forever grateful for that recommendation.

“Dori was more thorough in her assessment of my foot and alignment than any doctor I had ever seen,” says Wright. “She really took the time to understand what was happening to my body and what was causing it. Today, after working with Dori, my foot is completely pain-free. Now I see Dori whenever any little issue pops up so we can tackle it before it’s a real problem and sidelines me from the activities I love.”

Nissenson graduated from Lehigh University with honors and received her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Boston University. She currently resides in Westport with her husband and two daughters.
