New Westport Y on Track for Fall Completion

As the one-year anniversary of the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Westport Weston Family Y's modern new home at Mahackeno, project overseers are happy to report that the construction project remains on schedule and on budget.

The attractive stonework that will grace much of the building's exterior walls is now largely in place, and the remaining walls are now being clad with composite siding, in an earthen tone known as "Van Buren Brown."

The shingling is more than 90 percent complete above the Aquatic Center and Gymnasium. Most of the windows are installed and glazed, with the current focus being the completion of the large picture windows of the Robin Tauck Wellness Center.

Inside the 54,000 sq. ft. Bedford Family Center, the framing of the interior walls is nearly 90 percent complete, which will allow for the sheetrocking of walls and ceilings and the final installation of the ductwork, electrical supply and pipe insulation.

"Any building project as large and complex as our new Y involves thousands upon thousands of decisions and an intense amount of coordination of plans and actions," says Rob Reeves, Family Y CEO. "And at every step of the way, our Y's volunteer Construction Committee, Y staff and our partners at Turner Construction and their sub-contractors have pulled together in a highly professional way."

"It's a new year, and by early fall - if not before - we'll have our new Y," Reeves adds. "We can't wait!"
