Lions Gate Trio at Fairfield Library Sept. 28

The Fairfield Public Library will host the internationally acclaimed Lions Gate Trio for a chamber music concert on Sunday, September 28 at 3:00 pm. The Trio will perform “Ode to Joy,” a celebration of Beethoven and his life, spanning his earliest published years to his latest. Trio in C Minor, Op. 1, Violin Sonata No. 3 in E Flat Major, Op.24, and Cello Sonata No. 4 in C Major, Op. 102 will be performed. Intertwined with the music will be readings from Beethoven's most revelatory letters by New York speaker and arts advocate Lesley Karsten. Trio members are the talented Darrett Adkins, cello; Katie Lansdale, violin; and Florence Millet, piano. Peter Alexander, musical director, will introduce the program. The concert will be held in the Memorial Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Registration is requested due to limited seating.

The Lions Gate Trio enjoys a combination of performing, recording, and working with young musicians. Originally founded with cellist Scott Kluksdahl, Darrett Adkins joined Millet and Lansdale in 2011. Winners of the Koussevitsky Award for recording, the Trio have been lauded by the press for their CDs. They have recorded for Triton and Centaur labels featuring new American trios, duo and trio music of French composer Nicolas Bacri and the complete trios of Robert Schumann. With individual faculty positions in Cologne, New York and Hartford, the Trio has also served residencies at Tanglewood, Yale University and the University of Pittsburgh. They are the trio-in-residence in Connecticut at both the Library and the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford.

The Library is fortunate to host this accomplished chamber music trio each spring and fall through the generosity of the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library. The Friends have graciously underwritten the Soundwaves concerts each year, as well as the reception that follows, providing an opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy some light refreshments.
