WCI to Present American Jewish Story thru Cinema, Nov. 2

On Sunday, Nov. 2, beginning at 10am with a seminar and continuing at 1pm with a film screening, the Westport Cinema Initiative will present a special event: The American Jewish Story through Cinema. The event is presented in partnership with the Jewish Arts & Film Festival of Fairfield County and the UJA/Federation – Westport, Weston, Wilton, Norwalk and Eastern Fairfield County, with support from the Connecticut Office of the Arts.

Join the WCI for a day-long cinematic journey with Eric Goldman, an expert and lecturer on Yiddish, Israeli and Jewish film and noted film educator, as he analyzes classic American period films to understand the American Jewish experience over the last century. There will be a break for lunch and then a screening of the 2001 American film, “Focus”, based on a novel by Arthur Miller, starring William H. Macy and Laura Dern.

In the waning months of World War II, a man and his wife are mistakenly identified as Jews by their anti-Semitic Brooklyn neighbors. Suddenly the victims of religious and racial persecution, they find themselves aligned with a local Jewish immigrant in a struggle for dignity and survival.

Tickets for this event are $25 for the seminar and the film or $15 for the seminar or the film.
