Fairfield Counts Big Band to Play Westport Senior Center, Nov. 16

Jack Klinge, president of the Friends of the Westport Center for Senior Activities, has issued an invitation to music lovers to come and enjoy the Fairfield Counts Orchestra playing the best of the Big Band Era music on Sunday, November 16th, at the Center.  This is the first concert in the Friends’ Sunday Indoor Music Festival programmed by the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts.  The performance is free to the public, made possible by a grant from the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation.

Founded in 1976 and based in Fairfield County, the Fairfield Counts has attracted top caliber musicians over the years, whose intent is to recreate the unique big band sounds.  It is now considered one of the premier Big Bands on the East Coast and features 17 musicians, a musical director, and a superb female vocalist.

The Fairfield Counts entertains audiences all over the tri-state area.  It has been the featured orchestra at many area country clubs and civic organization affairs, in addition to appearances at private parties in NYC at Windows on the World, the Supper Club, Red Blazer Too, the Yale Club, the Hotel Pierre, and aboard the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier in New York Harbor.  Every summer the group can be heard at outdoor concerts, festivals and get-togethers, and to quote the New York Times, their music is “like walking into a ballroom dance out of the past, and it is wonderful!"

Doors open at 1:00 p.m., complimentary refreshments will be served at 1:30, followed by the Fairfield Counts at 2:00.  For more information or for reservations, which are suggested for this free performance, call (203) 341-5099.  The Westport Center for Senior Activities is located at 21 Imperial Avenue.
