Folk Music at WHS, Fri. April 17

Westport Historical Society begins its third season of the best in folk music with the popular series “Coffeehouse at the Wheeler’s.”

Westport singer-songwriter Suzanne Sheridan has been the creative driving force and musical inspiration for the series and returns on Friday, April 17 from 6-8 pm with an evening devoted to the music of James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt, titled “Sweet Baby James and The Stone Poney.”

Suzanne is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, professional portrait photographer and long-time resident of Westport, CT. Sheridan began her music career writing jingles for such companies as Pepsi, Hasbro toys and Texaco and writing music for The Electric Company and PBS television. Along with songwriter Lee Kweller, Suzanne wrote “The Power’s In You” which won an Honorable Mention in the gospel category at the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Suzanne starred in a sold-out rock ‘n roll concert, “She’s a rebel, fearlessly going where no woman has gone before” covering famous male-dominated rock ‘n roll songs from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s from a woman’s perspective.

Joining Sheridan will be Bob Cooper on keyboards, Westport musician/guitarist Scott Williams, as well as an array of Westport-based musical guests. They will perform their versions of favorite hits from these two musical geniuses and friends from the famed Troubador in LA., including That’ll Be the Day, Different Drum, Desperado, Mexico, Shower the People and How Sweet it is to be Loved By You, and many more.

Previous coffeehouses have included evenings with Sheridan and her band performing the music by Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Carole King, Carly Simon and Pete Seeger.
