Pequot Library's 18th Annual Art Show: Call for Entries

Southport, CT – The art entry deadline for submissions to Pequot Library’s 18th Annual Art Show is October 3, 2015 at 4:00pm. Running from October 16 - 23, 2015, the art show, filled with art and events, is one of Pequot Library’s most important fundraisers. Funds raised provide crucial annual support for programs and library services. The Art Show, Exploring the Landscape of Art, Exploring the Art of Landscape, is open to all artists working in any style, subject, or medium. Abstract or realistic, all subjects and styles are welcome. Entry forms are available online at pequotlibrary.org or at the Front Desk at Pequot Library. Please fill out an entry form and return it to the library, along with entry fee. Art drop off date is Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 10:00am – 4:00pm.

In celebration of October being National Arts and Humanities Month, Pequot Library has expanded its traditional Art Show to include a week full of activities for people of all ages under the leadership of co-chairs Coke Anne and Jarvis Wilcox. There will be children’s workshops, a community art exhibition, and a gallery talk about the founder of Pequot Library’s Annual Art Shows, Enid Munroe. Local and regional artists will participate in a newly established week-long Plein Air (painting outdoors) competition and art sale – all wrapped up in one fabulous week of fun and fundraising. The public is invited to the community Art Show, during normal library hours.

Other fun events include a Children's Art Show Workshop: Southport "Sketch-About” on Friday, October 9, 2015, from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. In this hands-on creative activity the children’s finished artwork will be on display through the Art Show, including the Preview Benefit Party. Silvermine Arts Center leads a kid’s program, Silvermine Arts Center at Pequot, on Saturday, October 17, 2015, from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. This children's art activity will be led by faculty members of the award-winning Silvermine School of Art. Another kid’s program, titled Furniture Factory!  will be a part of a "Pequot Woodshop" by helping assemble cool art stools and cabinets for the soon-to-be-renovated Children's Department, on Friday, October 23, 2015, 5:00pm - 7:00pm.

The premiere Preview Benefit Party kicks off the 18th Annual Art Show, on Friday, October 16, 2015, from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. There will be festive Drinks & Bites by Susan Kane Catering, a Viewer’s Choice - Party-goers vote for Best in Show, Performance Art, and a Silent Auction featuring extraordinary art and unique experiences. An exciting addition to this year's Annual Art Show is the Plein Air Pequot Competition. A Plein Air competition, including two Quick Paints on the Great Lawn will be offered. Entry details, fees, and guidelines are included in the Call for Entries Brochure found at the Front Desk or online at pequotlibrary.org. Throughout the week, local artists will paint "en plein air" around the Village of Southport. Scenes can include Pequot's Great Lawn, pastoral vistas, marine subjects, and so much more. There will also be two Quick Paints on the Great Lawn. Entry details and guidelines are also included in the Call for Entries Brochure available online at pequotlibrary.org. Entries to the Plein Air Pequot Competition will be judged, awards bestowed, and winners will be included in a group exhibition in Pequot Library's Perkin Gallery. The judges are Joseph Forte, Nancy McTague-Stock, and Peter Sutton.
