Norwalk, CT - The American Cancer Society (ACS) announced the addition of John Brannelly as a senior market manager for community engagement in its Norwalk office located at 38 Richards Avenue. Brannelly, a Fairfield resident, will be responsible for relationship management and engagement of the American Cancer Society’s community partners throughout Fairfield County. His experience and knowledge will help in the mobilization of volunteers and key community constituents in an effort to save more lives from cancer.
Brannelly previously worked in corporate relations for the Society for eight years in California. While there, he forged partnerships with the San Diego Padres and the San Diego Chargers, implementing the NFL’s “A Crucial Catch” breast cancer awareness campaign. He worked with Fortune 500 companies like Sempra Energy and Qualcomm implementing the Society’s employee engagement programs. He oversaw San Diego’s million-dollar Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, the San Diego Invitational and Daffodil Days programs.
In addition to his experience with ACS, Brannelly began his public relations career at The WorkPlace, Inc. He later honed those skills as the Planning & Communications Director for the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, developing its strategic plan and crisis communications. At the same time, he served as a Bridgeport City Council Member from 1991-1997 and then again from 1999-2001. His nonprofit career turned to fundraising when he served as Executive Director of the Darien United Way before relocating to San Diego with his spouse in 2003.
