Pop Up Art Show at WAC, Thurs. June 9

Westport, CT -- A one-night only exhibition by the Westport Arts Center Collective will pop up on Thursday, June 9 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Westport Arts Center.  The exhibition is free and open to the public.

All 150 members of the Westport Arts Center Collective have been invited to showcase a work of art, creating an extraordinary display of artistic talent, with works ranging from mixed media to sculpture to paintings.

All works are under 36” and are available for purchase.  With all proceeds going directly to the artists, the event is a great opportunity to support the arts on a local level.

“This is a highly anticipated event in the region,” stated Amanda Innes, the Westport Arts Center’s Acting Executive Director. “The all-member Pop Up is an amazing showcase of the diverse talent in our community,” she added.

As part of the Pop Up exhibition, guests can enjoy wine and a delicious variety of toasts and toppings (a tradition of the founding members, the “Toasters”), experience beautiful views of the Saugatuck River, and meet the participating artists.

The Westport Arts Center Collective has quickly grown to include 150 members who have joined forces to discuss, create, and develop dynamic art experiences.  It serves as a base for Westport Arts Center’s artists, bringing exciting Pop Up shows and other unique art events to the Arts Center and Fairfield County.  There is a now waiting list to join the Collective, a testament to the quantity and quality of local artists in our community.

The founding members of the Westport Arts Center Collective were recently honored by the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County with a 2016 ACE (Arts & Culture Empowerment) award in the Artist Category. Founding members include Nina Bentley, Miggs Burroughs, Helen Klisser During, Duvian Montoya, Jahmane West and Tammy Winser.

“The Collective has been instrumental in helping us create a true home for artists,” said Innes. “As part of the Arts Center, they help us to serve the community through the arts and to build strong relationships with other organizations in Westport,” she added.
