SHU to Dedicate New Residence Hall

Fairfield, CT -- Sacred Heart University is hosting a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for its brand new, state-of-the-art residence hall, the Jorge Bergoglio Hall, named after Pope Francis. The building will house more than 200 sophomore students in two-bedroom (four-person) pods with a shared bathroom. In the evening, SHU will host “The God Squad: An Interfaith Discussion Among Friends.”

Rabbi Abraham Skorka, a close friend of Pope Francis since childhood, will offer the keynote remarks at the dedication. Reception to follow ceremony. The evening discussion features Fr. Tony Ciorra, SHU’s associate vice president for Mission and Catholic Identity, and Skorka, biophysicist and author.

The dedication will take place at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield on Tuesday, August 30, at 11 a.m. at the Jorge Bergoglio Hall.

The discussion will be at 7 p.m. at the Forum in the Frank and Marisa Martire Business & Communications Center.

The event is sponsored by Sacred Heart University, the Office of Mission & Catholic Identity and the Human Journey Colloquia Series. There is no fee to attend -- these events are free and open to the public.
