Geary Gallery Presents Pam Ackley in Nov.

Darien, CT - This November, the Geary Gallery of Darien is proud to present “Fascinating Spaces” featuring the meditative portraits, still lifes, and landscapes of New Canaan CT painter Pam Ackley. Her exhibit runs November 1 – 30 at the Geary Gallery located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien.

Featured Artist, November: Pam Ackley

Born and raised in New York City and now living in New Canaan, CT, Pam Ackley received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Marymount Manhattan College and a master’s in clinical social work from New York University. During the 1990s, she ran her own catering business and in September 2006, she began her artistic journey by studying at the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan. Since then, she has studied under and worked with several renowned artists.

Recognized quickly for her meditative—and sometimes haunting—works, she specializes in oil on linen portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and pet portraits. She always paints from “live” subjects, never from a photo. “The process of painting has been a journey in self discovery,” Ackley says. “To me, everything emotes a mood, whether the object is organic or inanimate.”

“Painting allows me entrance into that fascinating space, that space that I knew from the inside years ago. Bringing forth the inner quality of my subjects helps me bring my truest nature to my work, as well as allowing me to visit places which would otherwise be disquieting. This is what makes painting so exquisite,” she explains.

Ackley is the model coordinator for the New Street Guild of Artists, a group she  helped found in 2010.  NSGA meets twice weekly at their Wilton, CT studio and is exclusivly dedicated to painting the model from life. She continues her artistic study both privately and in atelier settings.

Ackley has had several solo and group shows in Connecticut including Wilton, Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, Ridgefield, and New Canaan. She is a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists and Connecticut Women Artists, Inc. She has won multiple juried awards, including first prize in 2012 for "Teapots, Cup and Glass" at the New Canaan Society for the Arts, Spectrum Juried Exhibition; 2013 Best in Show for "Tracey" at the Silvermine School of Art Juried Student Exhibition; 2014 Best in Show for "Repose," Silvermine School of Art Juried Student Exhibition; 2015 Finalist for "Farm Fresh," Art of the Northeast,  65th Annual Juried Exhibition; and 2016 Dog Days of Winter Invitational Exhibition, The Bendheim Galley, Greenwich, CT.
