Weston HS Presents Modern "Hamlet" Nov. 4-6

Weston, CT – To see Hamlet, or not to see Hamlet? That is the question. Don't miss this powerful production on stage at the Weston High School (WHS) the weekend of November 4th. WHS’ Company has worked the drama into a shorter, more contemporary rendition, keeping the brilliant twists and turns that has made “Hamlet” one of Shakespeare’s most popular works.

“Our production is a very modern interpretation of a timeless classic that's over 400 years old. I have abridged the text in order for us to tell the story in two hours as opposed to four,” said Nancy Ponturo, the director of this production.

The classic tragedy about revenge and retribution, deception, ambition, loyalty and fate, follows Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark’s descent into madness after the death of his father and the marriage of his uncle Claudius to his recently widowed mother, Queen Gertrude.

One unique variation of this production is that the role of Hamlet will be performed by three different actors so the audience can see the development of Hamlet’s psyche as the action unfolds. This adaptation of Hamlet mixes the classic elements of the play with a fresh take on scenery, characters, and costumes. From Catholic schoolgirl uniforms for Hamlet’s two childhood friends to a Hillary Clinton-esque pantsuit for Queen Gertrude, the modern costumes add a stylish vibe to the production.

Performance dates are Friday, November 4 at 8 pm, Saturday, November 5 at 8 pm, and Sunday, November 6 at 12 no
