Profile: Special Movements Active Kids Athletics

Norwalk, CT - Special Movements Active Kids (S.M.A.K. Athletics) is a fitness program designed for children with special needs. The much needed facility was founded by two speech-language pathologists and fitness fanatics.

There is a strong positive correlation between physical activity and language development. Within each exercise class, children at S.M.A.K. Athletics will receive multiple opportunities to practice a wide range of language skills. Some may include but not limited to: following multi-step oral directions, turn-taking, initiating and maintaining conversations with peers, and expan ding vocabulary.

Each parent will have the option of receiving an Individualized Exercise Plan (IEP) with specific, personalized goals and objectives implemented for their child's physical fitness development. Progress reports will be sent out after the 10 week session has ended showing baseline data and progress for each child. Actual IEPs (Individualized Education Plan) can also be considered when facilitating language in the class.

There are multiple classes in Norwalk, Greenwich, Fairfield and the founders are in discussion to provide this service in New Canaan.
