Take Your Child to the Library Day at Pequot, Feb. 4

Southport, CT – Take Your Child to the Library Day is an international initiative that encourages families everywhere to take their children to their local library. The public is invited to bring their children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews to Pequot Library on Saturday, February 4, 2017.

Programs include a YA (Young Adult) Writing Workshop from 11:00am – 1:00pm in the May Room; a Meet the Cello hands-on workshop for children about chamber instruments from 1:15pm – 1:45pm in the Children’s Library; and a Free Young Persons’ Concert with Music for Youth, featuring internationally-recognized cellist Allison Eldredge, from 2:00pm – 3:00pm in the Auditorium.

Throughout the day from 10:00am – 4:00pm families can enjoy Cooking Down the Ages: Cookbooks and Recipes, the exhibition from Pequot Library’s Special Collections of rare books and artifacts, in the exhibit case in the Reading Room and in The Perkin Gallery at Pequot Library. Free and open to all.

Take Your Child to the Library Day (TYCLD) was launched in 2011 right here in Connecticut by librarians Nadine Lipman (Waterford Public Library, retired) and Caitlin Augusta (Stratford Library) with artist Nancy Elizabeth Wallace, TYCLD raises community awareness about the importance of the library in the life of a child, and promotes library services and programs for children and families.
