Share Poetry with Robert Pinsky @ Fairfield Library, April 27

Bring a poem to read and share with one of America's most eminent poets, Robert Pinsky, on Sunday, April 27 at 2:00 pm in the Memorial Room at Fairfield's Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. A reception with the poet will follow.

Shortly after being appointed poet laureate in 1997, Pinsky founded the Favorite Poem Project to celebrate, document and encourage poetry's role in American's lives. Thousands of Favorite Poem readings have followed. Add your voice to the Project at this reading here in Fairfield. Registration is requested.

Robert Pinsky's most recent book, Singing School: Learning to Write (and Read) Poetry by Studying with the Masters, will be available for purchase and signing at this event. Singing School is described by the publisher as "A bold new approach to writing (and reading) poetry based on great poetry of the past."

Pinsky is a poet, essayist and translator. A book of his Selected Poems was published in 2011. Previous books of poetry include Gulf Music (2008), Jersey Rain (2000), The Want Bone (1990) and The Figured Wheel: New and Collected Poems 1966-1996. His best-selling translation The Inferno of Dante (1994) was a Book-of-the-Month-Club Editor's Choice, and received both the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the Harold Morton Landon Translation Award. His prose books include The Life of David (2005), The Situation of Poetry (1976) and The Sounds of Poetry (1998). Among his many awards, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the PEN American Center. Robert Pinsky founded The Favorite Poem Project while serving an unprecedented three terms as United States Poet Laureate. He is a professor of English at Boston University and the poetry editor of the online magazine, Slate.
