CT Audubon Society Summer Camps Ideal for Kids 4-14

The Connecticut Audubon Society's Summer Camps provide the ideal setting for children to explore, investigate, and discover science and nature. These nature-inspired camp sessions are available from June through August for campers ages 4 - 14. Half and full day sessions are available including a daily lunch bunch option for campers.

Camp includes sessions such as "Swamp Tromp" where campers will learn about the cool critters that inhabit the Larsen Wildlife Sanctuary's ponds, marshes and streams. Or "Where the Wild Things Are" where campers will conduct field work in the sanctuary looking for native wild things.

In addition to all the old favorites, there are a variety of new camps offerings like, "Animal Superheroes" for preschoolers. They'll discover which animals are the fastest, strongest and biggest and test their own superhero skills through games and activities. New for the 5 to 12-year-olds is "Slimy, Scaly & Squirmy." From snakes to hissing cockroaches, learn why these critters are so important to the natural world. "Fire & Ice" is another new addition campers will learn about glaciers and volcanic fires, track quakes, and perform erupting experiments.

The Junior Science Labs at Birdcraft are for older campers ages 10 -14. These sessions enhance campers' curiosity with hands-on science exploration in a wide variety of formats and science related topics like: forensic science, zoology and physics. The sessions incorporate a combination of science curriculum and engaging projects and activities which foster learning, creativity and fun! For example, a week-long day camp focusing on forensics will have kids exploring the science of evidence collecting as they follow clues to solve mysteries. And "Zoology: Biology dissection" offers the opportunity to dissect a frog, grasshopper, worm and starfish. Or "Mechanical Mania" which is the perfect introduction for future mechanical engineers where campers will explore the science and design of motion.

Camps are led by teacher-naturalist and college-educated staff with experience in education and/or science. Counselors and Junior Volunteers provide additional support. Staffed trained in First Aid, CPR, and Epi-Pen are present throughout the duration of camp. Our high staff to camper ratio ensures all campers have a safe, fun, and educational camp experience.
