WAC Welcomes New Ed Fellow, Rebecca Brown

The Westport Arts Center is delighted to welcome Rebecca Brown as the new Education Fellow for the 2014 – 2015 season.

As Education Fellow, Rebecca will develop and teach the Arts Center’s dynamic arts education programs for youth and teens. She will also be assisting Education Manager Lindsay Heffernan with the Arts Center’s Outreach Programs Connections and WAC Gives Back in Bridgeport, Norwalk, New Haven, and Redding CT.

Rebecca is a Connecticut native who grew up in Fairfield County before moving to Illinois as a teenager. She has loved creating art since she was young. When her interest and talent for art became apparent, her parents enrolled her in weekend art classes, similar to classes offered by the Arts Center, for her to pursue her passion. Rebecca is thrilled to return to Connecticut, reflecting, “After parting ways from Connecticut for nine years, I am excited to be back doing what I love to do, teaching art and inspiring kids!”

Rebecca graduated from the University of Iowa in May of 2014, with a Fine Arts degree in Ceramics and Museum Studies, with an Art History minor. She has taught art to children and teens at Camp Washington in Lakeside, CT and has worked as a docent at the Museum of Natural History and Old Capitol Museum, both at The University of Iowa. "Rebecca brings a great energy to the Arts Center,” says Lindsay Heffernan. “Her expertise and talent are guaranteed to have a positive impact on our students and I'm looking forward to working with her this season."

The Arts Center is proud to present a new roster of classes for youth and teens starting this fall. In addition to the Arts Center’s popular KidsCreate, Art Factory, and Art Fundamentals, is the new Building Workshop, perfect for students who love to work with 3D materials. A new gallery series will engage kids and teens in behind the scenes tours of exhibitions, discussions with well-known artists, and projects inspired by the season exhibition. High school and college students looking to expand their portfolios for college admission and class exemptions are invited to enroll in the new Portfolio Development class Art classes for children ages 3 to 12 at the Westport Arts Center start September 22. Teen education classes begin in October. Registration is now open for all youth and teen classes held from September to June. With Rebecca’s expertise this education season at the Westport Arts Center is sure to be inspiring for all.
