State to Go Ahead with New Haven Coliseum Redevelopment

Governor Malloy today announced plans for the state's investment of $21.5 million to complete the redevelopment of the former New Haven Coliseum site, known as Downtown Crossing. The state's investment clears the way for the $395 million project to begin construction.

When complete, the project will not only better connect the downtown region to area neighborhoods, but will also generate thousands of new permanent jobs due to the 35 to 40 new small to mid-sized permanent businesses and up to 25 seasonal incubator businesses planned at the location. In total, the redevelopment will generate 2,809 permanent jobs at the site.

In addition, 4,700 construction jobs will be supported while the project is in development.

Today’s announcement underscores the synergy we envision for this development, directly tied to a vibrant biotech industry, a great university, and growing medical center. This is a clear indication that New Haven and Connecticut will continue to be a center for high-tech and life sciences
