Fairfield Museum Calls for Entries for IMAGES Photo Show

The Fairfield Museum and History Center has announced a Call for Entries for its seventh annual IMAGES photography competition and invites professional/serious amateur and student photographers from Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts to participate. The deadline for entries is Thursday, April 2 at 9 am.
 
IMAGES, which has become a highly-regarded exhibition to celebrate the exceptional work of talented regional photographers, is being sponsored by Pascale Communications, Venu magazine, Southport Gallery, WSHU Public Radio and Fairfield University. In addition to the juried show, IMAGES 2015 will also feature a solo exhibition by internationally renowned photographer Howard Schatz, in celebration of his remarkable twenty-five year career.
 
Categories for this year’s show include Landscape, Portrait, Architecture, Nature, and Abstract. Photographers may submit up to 10 images under one of two categories: Professional/Serious Amateur ($10 entry fee per image) or Student less than 24 years of age ($5 entry fee per image). All competition entries must be submitted online at fairfieldhistory.org/exhibitions-2/images/.

A jury will select approximately 50 photographs from the entries for exhibition in the IMAGES 2015 exhibition, which will be on view at the Fairfield Museum from May 14 – July 19, 2015.  The exhibition will kick off at a Gala Preview Party, Thursday May 14, featuring creative hors d'oeuvres, wine, craft beer, a martini bar, musical entertainment and a raffle. Tickets will go on sale March 16. 

A Museum After Dark Artists’ reception is planned for Thursday, July 16 from 6-8 pm, where Howard Schatz will be signing his magnificent two-book boxed set, with 830 pages and 1083 images, titled SCHATZ Images: 25 Years.

Awards
One photographer from the Professional/Serious Amateur category and one from the Student category will be selected as Grand Prize winners. Among the awards for the Professional/Serious Amateur winner is a 10-day exhibition at the Southport Galleries in Southport, CT.  The Student Grand Prize winner will receive a portfolio review from featured photographer Howard Schatz.

IMAGES 2015 will also include a solo exhibition by featured photographer Howard Schatz, who has had a long and distinguished career as a photographer, with over 20 books of photographs to his credit. Schatz’s award-winning artistic oeuvre and is primarily known for his dynamic and intimate portraits of the human body, and his photographs make up a veritable catalog of body types and personalities, from newborns and mothers, to athletes and bodies underwater.  His editorial photographs have been featured in Vanity Fair, TIME, Sports Illustrated, US News and World Report, Vogue, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and GQ Italia.
 
Other Jurors include Suzanne Chamlin, an Associate Professor and Director of Studio Art in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Fairfield University, where she teaches Painting and Drawing. Her works are in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Yale University Art Gallery and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. She has been a recipient of residencies at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Yaddo.
 
LaTanya S. Autry is a Ph.D. candidate in the art history department at University of Delaware and the Marcia Brady Tucker Fellow in photography at the Yale University Art Gallery.  She has taught the history of photography and studies art of the United States, photography, and museums.  Her dissertation, The Crossroads of Commemoration: Lynching Landscapes in America, explores the meaning of representation, collaborative art practices, landscape and memorial culture.
 
Jeremy Frost began his career in the 1960s, becoming a partner at Shafer Studios in upstate NY in the 1970s, where he did a broad range of studio work. He subsequently moved to NYC and photographed for the William Doyle Auction Galleries. He has won awards in national and international competitions and his work has been printed in The Magazine Antiques and The New York Times. He is currently based in Southport, Connecticut, and recently served as the President and Chair of Judging for the Norwalk Camera Club.
