African Penguins to Spend the Summer at Beardsley Zoo

Bridgeport, CT - Get ready to meet Squirt, Sal, South and Tubbs -- four African Black-Footed Penguins that are spending their summer at CT's Beardsley Zoo! They will be on exhibit from May 7 through Sept. 30 -- so make plans to stop by and see them!

The Zoo is building a temporary exhibit across from its Peacock Cafe that will feature 3,000 gallons of water where you can watch them swim when they're not walking around on land.

The penguins, which range in age from 12 to 23, are coming to the Zoo from the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The species is one of 10 featured in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' new initiative entitled "SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction."

The Zoo's Education Department is planning Wild Adventure Animal Shows, Animal Bytes storytelling and scavenger hunts -- all designed to help you learn, and care, about penguins.
