New Teen Librarian at Pequot Library

Southport, CT – Pequot Library announces the hiring of Christine Catallo, MLIS as their Teen Librarian and Technical Services manager. Ms. Catallo studied library and information science at Long Island University and has recently transitioned from a customer service-oriented corporate library setting at the Copyright Clearance Center, formerly Infotrieve. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and writing. She is passionate about young adult literature and is thrilled to bring her enthusiasm to Pequot Library’s young adult reading program. Ms. Catallo can be reached at (203) 259-0346 ext. 19 or catallo@pequotlibrary.org.

In her new role, Ms. Catallo created a fun summer reading program for both tweens and teens. The program encourages kids to read, and to log their “nuggets” of inspiration and information. The new Summer Reading Program for teens and tweens going into grades 6-12, is designed to encourage young adults, Pequoteens, to continue reading during the summer months by incorporating nuggets. The young readers are asked to choose a book from Pequot’s Summer Reading List, and while reading it, to look for nuggets of information. It can be an inspiring quote, or an interesting character, a theme that’s captivating, or anything that inspires the reader. Pequoteens record that nugget in their favorite notebook or in a computer document.

Each nugget is a point, so the more nuggets a Pequoteen includes in their journal, the more points earned. At the end of the summer, the tweens and teens are invited to bring their journals to the Teen Librarian, Christine, at Pequot Library. She will tally up the points, prizes include cash prizes (donated by a library lover) and free chicken nuggets from Garden Catering. Visit pequotlibrary.org for more information and to see both the Teen and Tween Summer Reading Lists. There will also be a YA (Young Adult) book of the week, on display in Pequot Library’s Reading Room, and the book will be posted on Pequot Library’s Facebook and Twitter feeds for parental viewing.

Registration is not required. The Will Read For Nuggets Teen Summer Reading Program runs from now through August 26th, 2016. Please call Christine Catallo at (203) 259-0346 ext. 19, or email her at catallo@pequotlibrary.org for more information.
