Fairfield Unveils New Pickleball Courts

Fairfield, CT -- Fairfield officials gathered late morning Wednesday, August 24th to celebrate the opening of the Town's new Pickleball Courts at Tunxis Hill Park, 225 Melville Avenue.

Pickleball is a sport for all ages. It is easy to learn and can be played at any level. It is played with a paddle board and plastic ball both indoors at the Bigelow Center and outdoors on the new courts on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. Pickleball is a mix of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.

Pickleball was introduced to the Bigelow Center in 2013 and was a huge hit. While many of the Center's regular players may use the new Courts, they are also open to anyone in Town to play.

Those attending the celebration included First Selectman Mike Tetreau, Parks and Recreation Director Gerry Lombardo, Acting USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) Ambassador for the Town of Fairfield Maryann Charmoz, retired gym teacher and Pickleball Volunteer Coordinator for the Bigelow Center Betsy Hume and some of the Bigelow Center's regular players.
