CBAC Call for Entries: SPECTRUM Art Show

NEW CANAAN, CT – The Carriage Barn Arts Center is accepting entries for its 27th Annual SPECTRUM Contemporary Art Show, scheduled to open Saturday, April 22 and run through Thursday, May 25, 2017.  Entries can be submitted online at www.CarriageBarn.org and the deadline for submissions is Thursday, March 9 at midnight.

This juried exhibit of original, contemporary art by local and regional artists invites submissions in all media.  Entries must have been created within the past two years and not have been previously exhibited at the Carriage Barn. Guest juror and contemporary art specialist Adrienne Ruger Conzelman, of ARC Fine Art, is reviewing works rendered in grayscale — black and white and anything in between. The limited palette will give emphasis to form, texture, perspective, context and content. Virtually every medium will be considered including: Oil, Acrylic, Photography, Pastel, Drawing, Print, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Assemblage, Installation, Fabric and Video when part of an installation.

“Every year SPECTRUM showcases the work of established and emerging area artists who are practicing in a wide array of media,” says Hilary Wittmann, Executive Director of the Carriage Barn Arts Center.  “We’re excited to see the range of mediums and styles, unified by a black/white/grayscale theme that will translate to a visually beautiful show.”

A private art dealer and advisor, Ruger Conzelman was trained as an art historian and possesses nearly twenty-five years of work experience in the art world. After receiving a MA in Art History from Williams College and BA in Art History from Hamilton College with concentrations in American Art, Adrienne completed NYU’s Appraisal Studies Certificate Program as well as extensive coursework at the Museum of Modern Art, Sotheby’s, and Christie’s.  Since opening ARC Fine Art in 2009, Adrienne has curated over 23 solo exhibitions and multiple group shows, both in Fairfield and in Pop-Up galleries in New York City and Amagansett.

This will be the 27th Annual SPECTRUM Show sponsored by The New Canaan Society for the Arts and held at the Carriage Barn Arts Center.  Typically, the show features about 100 works selected from hundreds of entries.  New this year, the juror will select 6-8 “Artists To Watch” who will be recognized and awarded at the reception and participate in a special presentation at the Carriage Barn Arts Center.

About The New Canaan Society for the Arts

The mission of the New Canaan Society for the Arts is to promote the visual and performing arts, to enrich the community through exhibitions, education, and cultural experiences, and to operate the Carriage Barn Arts Center. We offer artists opportunities to exhibit their work in an exceptional gallery space inside a unique nineteenth-century stone barn. Our shows are complemented by gatherings, educational workshops, concerts, and other events in this adaptively reused historical space, located on the grounds of a former estate, now named Waveny Park. Our gallery hours during exhibitions are Wednesday-Saturday 10am-3pm and Sundays 1-5pm. More information can be found at www.carriagebarn.org.
