CBAC Issues Entries Call for Art In The Windows

NEW CANAAN, CT – The Carriage Barn Arts Center is accepting entries for the 10th Annual “Art In The Windows,” an exhibit of artwork by local artists in the windows of downtown New Canaan stores. Local artists from New Canaan and surrounding towns are encouraged to submit artwork in all mediums. Accepted entries will be displayed throughout New Canaan from Thursday, May 4 – Saturday, May 20. Entries can be submitted online at www.CarriageBarn.org and the deadline for submissions is Friday, March 31 at midnight.

Members, non-members and students are encouraged to submit work. New this year is a youth category for artists ages 8-16. Artists may submit up to three pieces, and artwork must be framed and wired for hanging, or an easel or pedestal should be provided. Due to limited space, smaller works (approx. 24” x 24”) are preferable, but a limited number of retailers are able to display larger scale artwork (up to 40”x40”). All displayed works will be for sale with 50% of proceeds benefiting the New Canaan Society for the Arts (which operates the Carriage Barn) and 50% going to the artist.

The annual showcase is produced in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce. So far, over 65 retailers are participating including Ally Bally Bee, Consider The Cook, Elm Street Books, Franco’s Pimlico, Stewart’s Spirits, Togs, Vineyard Vines, The Whitney Shop and many others.  The Chamber and Carriage Barn Arts Center are organizing a kick-off event on Thursday, May 4 from 5:30-7:30pm with special events, receptions and activities taking place throughout town.  Bankwell is the presenting sponsor of Art In The Windows, and additional sponsorship opportunities are available.

About The New Canaan Society for the Arts                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The mission of the New Canaan Society for the Arts is to promote the visual and performing arts, to enrich the community through exhibitions, education, and cultural experiences, and to operate the Carriage Barn Arts Center. We offer artists opportunities to exhibit their work in an exceptional gallery space inside a unique nineteenth-century stone barn. Our shows are complemented by gatherings, educational workshops, concerts, and other events in this adaptively reused historical space, located on the grounds of a former estate, now named Waveny Park. Our gallery hours during exhibitions are Wednesday-Saturday 10am-3pm and Sundays 1-5pm. More information can be found at www.carriagebarn.org.
