STAMFORD, CONN. – Dementia treatment practitioners at Edgehill Continuing Care Retirement Community have earned certification in MUSIC & MEMORY℠, a groundbreaking therapy program that helps individuals struggling from dementia reconnect with family, friends and caregivers through a personalized digital music program.
MUSIC & MEMORY℠ helps people in dementia care facilities, who suffer from a wide range of chronic cognitive and physical challenges, to find renewed meaning and connection in their lives through the gift of personalized music. Edgehill staff is trained to set up personalized music playlists, delivered on iPods and other digital devices, for those in their care.

Barstein notes the MUSIC & MEMORY℠ program is rooted in neuroscience research, and ongoing research and evaluation of the program in care organizations shows participants are happier and more social; relationships among staff, participants and family deepen; staff regain time previously lost to behavior management issues; and there is growing evidence that a personalized music program helps memory care professionals in their effort to reduce residents’ reliance on antipsychotic medications.
