Fairfield, CT - Families who will be in town during the Fairfield Public School’s break will find a variety of activities and workshops at the Fairfield Museum. The activities celebrate and explore the themes of the Museum’s newest exhibition, Talkin’ ‘Bout My Generation: Fairfield in the 1960s & 1970s.
Two workshops, “Wonderful Weaving” and “Funky Tie-Dye” require pre-registration, while Family Focus drop-in programs are free of charge and walk-ins are welcome. All Family Focus activities are generously sponsored by People’s United Bank. In addition, the documentary film, CT in the 1960s, will be screened at the Museum on Monday, April 10 at 11am and Friday, April 13 at 2pm. The film is free and open to the public. The schedule for the vacation week is as follows:
Monday, April 10, 11am – Documentary Screening, “CT in the 1960s.”
Tuesday, April 11, 2-3pm - Family Focus “Space Race.” Build and paint your own rocket from a variety of recycled materials and create moon rocks while learning about America’s race to the moon in the ‘60s.
Wednesday, April 12, 9am-12pm – Wonderful Weaving, ages 8-12. Work with master artist and texile designer Ruben Marroquin and learn to weave using a table loom. Take home a woven bracelet or bookmark. ($20 for members; $25 for non-members.)
Wednesday, April 12, 2-3pm - Family Focus “Love Bugs.” Assemble and color a VW Beetle or Bus while listening to a mix of ‘60s and ‘70s music.
Thursday, April 13, 9am-12pm – Funky Tie-Dye, ages 8-12. Create colorful shirts or bring other items to tie dye! ($20 members; $25 non-members.)
Thursday, April 13, 2-3pm - Family Focus “Spin & Yarn Art.” Make a psychedelic spin art painting or a “universe eye” from yarn, two crafts that were popular in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
Friday, April 14, 2-3pm – Family Focus “Colorful & Cool Collage Eggs.” Create a wide array of plastic eggs using kaleidoscope colors, paper and patterns.
Friday, April 14, 2pm – Documentary Screening, “CT in the 1960s.”
