FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Sacred Heart and Seton Hall University School of Law are partnering on a new 3+3 program that will allow select students to earn a bachelor’s degree at Sacred Heart and a Juris Doctor at Seton Hall Law in six rather than the usual seven years.
Students in this program will complete their undergraduate degree (in political science, global studies, history, sociology, English, criminal justice, foreign languages, psychology, chemistry or philosophy/theology/religious studies) in three years (90 credits). The remaining 30 undergraduate credits will be completed during the first year of law school at Seton Hall Law.
“We are very excited about this addition to our program offerings,” said John J. Petillo, president of Sacred Heart. “It will be a great option for those students who know they want to go on to law school after college and can commit to the accelerated pace. They will save money and earn their JD more quickly than they would going the traditional route.” Petillo is an alumnus of Seton Hall and former Seton Hall chancellor and chief executive officer.
Seton Hall Law is widely known and respected with five Centers of Excellence in health and life sciences, intellectual property, privacy, compliance. The law school’s law firm, the Center for Social Justice, provides students with invaluable experience representing clients under faculty supervision, as well as many pro bono opportunities. Seton Hall Law offers full–time and part-time JD program as well as graduate programs for non-lawyers. The law school boasts a highly respected Top 10 Health Law Program. Students have opportunities for regional and national engagement through Seton Hall Law’s Moot Court and Mock Trial programs and its very selective Leadership Program.
Sacred Heart faculty advisers will assist admitted students to ensure program requirements are met. Seton Hall Law admissions staff will be responsible for the final review and evaluation prior to entry into the JD program. Admitted students who fail to meet program requirements may still be considered for regular admission to Seton Hall Law.
Tuition for the duration of the program spent at Sacred Heart—including summer courses, if any—will be the same charged to other students in Sacred Heart programs. Tuition will not be charged by Sacred Heart for the fourth year of the 3+3 program. Tuition for the three years of study at the Seton Hall Law will be the same as the tuition charges to students enrolled in the regular curriculum there.
