Patrick Comins New Executive Director at CT Audubon Society

Fairfield, CT -- The Connecticut Audubon Society has announced that Patrick Comins has been appointed as the organization's new executive director. Comins issued the following letter via email to members and friends:

I'm thrilled and honored to be returning to the Connecticut Audubon Society as executive director! Having come from a conservation background, it is the chance to make a bigger difference for the birds and other wildlife we share our state with that excites me about leading this venerable conservation organization.

As you may know, I began my professional conservation career with the Connecticut Audubon Society, in 1997, conducting bird surveys along the coast, based at the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge.

Many things have changed since then. There have been tremendous conservation victories, such as the protection of Menunketesuck Island in Westbrook and the former Griswold Airport property in Madison; the creation of the East River Preserve in Guilford and the Preserve in Old Saybrook, Westbrook and Essex; and the restoration of Long Beach West In Stratford.
And the Connecticut Audubon Society itself has recently acquired 835 acres for a new preserve -- Deer Pond Farm -- on the western border of the state.Yet of course there are still serious threats to our birds, and to other wildlife and their habitats, as well as unmet opportunities to protect the places that make Connecticut special.

One thing that has not changed is that the Connecticut Audubon Society continues to be a leader in inspiring people to conserve the nature of Connecticut.

I hope you can share my enthusiasm for the opportunities that lie ahead and be a part of our team to make Connecticut a better place for birds, other wildlife, and for all of us!

We can't do any of this alone. Since the announcement of my new position, I have received innumerable offers to help with our conservation and education work, and I'll soon be in touch about specific ways you can help.We are only as strong as our roots and we need a team of dedicated supporters, volunteers and activists.Thank you all for your excitement and for your help! And let me also take this opportunity to thank Nelson North, who recently retired, for his leadership during 16 months as executive director, and to our Board of Directors for its unswerving faith in our mission and our ability to accomplish it.

Best wishes,

Patrick Comins
Executive Director
