Fairfield Wins Sustainability Award

Live Green Connecticut! has recognized Fairfield and six other municipalities with an award for piloting a statewide sustainability initiative.

The award states, “Live Green Connecticut! Executive Board officially certifies The Town of Fairfield as a founding community for sharing best practices, providing municipal case studies and joining our sustainable network. Thank you for your generous support in achieving a more sustainable future for Connecticut.”

Live Green Connecticut! is a six-year-old 501(C)(3) non-profit based in Fairfield that promotes smart energy management and environmental education. Scott Thompson, Fairfield’s Clean Energy Task Force Chair, was on hand to accept the award.

During a special ceremony held last month at Fairfield University Accelerator and Mentoring Enterprise (FAME), which is located above the Fairfield University bookstore, awards were presented to innovative communities like Fairfield as well as to Bridgeport, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Stamford, Westport and Wilton. Each community was recognized for their work in creating resilient communities and for being founding Live Green Connecticut! municipalities.

Live Green Connecticut!’s sustainability initiative forges connections between municipalities, community leaders, community members and businesses while sharing case studies and resources that support a sustainable infrastructure.

Fairfield and the other communities are leading by example by demonstrating their transition to renewables and support of smarter energy management in the both public and private sectors.

Daphne Dixon, Co-Founder and President of Live Green Connecticut!, explains, “We are excited about the growth we have experienced with Live Green Connecticut! and our magic mix of online resources, events, public relations and networking events that support the growth of smart communities. We have been building our network for eight years, and look forward to working with municipalities throughout the state and sharing case studies where economics drive sustainability.”

Fairfield First Selectman Mike Tetreau stated, “By sharing ideas and helping municipalities develop solutions together, Live Green Connecticut! has made a significant impact on sustainability and cost savings for towns and cities across Connecticut.”

As Live Green Connecticut! has broadened its vision, it is now primed to be Connecticut’s trusted source for sustainability information. On April 1, 2015, at the Fairfield Theatre Company at 2:00 pm, Live Green Connecticut! will bring together businesses, municipalities and community leaders from around the state for a lively event for the official re-launch of www.livegreenct.org which will feature case studies from around the state, a business directory and other resources. The event is open to the public. There is no charge to attend.
