Incumbent Fairfield First Selectman has announced his plans to seek a second term. First elected in 2011, Tetreau promised transparency, fiscal responsibility and to work to keep Fairfield “the best value in Connecticut.”
“I’ve spent the last four years working with my fellow Fairfield residents to build trust and a positive, honest, working relationship. What I’m most grateful for is the support I’ve received from Republicans and Democrats alike. That my 2015 budget was endorsed across party lines and approved by 43 out of 48 RTM members without the typical political posturing shows, I believe, the progress we’ve made in working together to build a stronger future for Fairfield families," Tetreau said.
Tetreau’s proposed 2015 budget has the lowest proposed tax increase in the last 15 years and represents the fourth budget in a row with declining tax increases, according to his publicity spokesperson.
The budget also protects Fairfield’s quality of life by including the full amount requested by the Board of Education, meeting the long-term commitments to Fairfield’s pension system and adding a $650,000 contribution to the surplus, adds Tetreau's campaign office. The 2015 budget also allows for an increase in Senior and Disabled Tax Relief, restores funding for the library and has more money for needed sidewalk and road repairs, according to campaign planners.
Tetreau went on to say, “I’m proud we’ve been able to come together to stop the trend of higher tax increases. I’m proud we’re providing our students with a solid education. I’m proud we’re able to come together during crisis – like Storm Sandy. I’m proud we’re able to maintain our town services, particularly education, public safety and tax relief for seniors. But mostly, I’m proud we’ve achieved these successes in an open and bi-partisan way. We have much work ahead, but I’m confident we will keep Fairfield “the best value in Connecticut.”
