Free Solarize Workshop for Fairfielders, April 28

Fairfield, CT -- The Fairfield Clean Energy Task Force in conjunction with SmartPower is hosting a free Solarize Workshop on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the Memorial Room at the Fairfield Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road, where residents can learn how they can save money and energy while reducing their environmental impact with a solar installation on their homes.

Fairfield Clean Energy Task Force Chair Scott Thompson said, “Interest in going solar for economic and environmental benefits is widespread across Fairfield. Almost 300 residents have already installed solar on their homes and, since the launch of the town-wide Solarize Fairfield initiative in late March, 133 more residents have signed up to see if their homes are suitable for solar.”

Resident David McMahon said, “I save quite a bit on delivery costs which I no longer have to pay to UI. Because our electricity delivery systems are so inefficient, UI has to make 4 kWh of electricity for us to receive just one kWh over the grid. Solar, which you produce on site, makes the delivery cost go away. Another important consideration is UI burns coal to make our electricity. If your solar array produces one kWh of electricity, UI burns four fewer kWh of coal. This is the real savings of solar power.”

Mr. Thompson added, “Solarize Fairfield is a coordinated effort across the community. Through a competitive selection process, SmartPower has selected All Green it Solar as Fairfield’s solar installer. All Green it Solar is providing all the solar installations for the Solarize Fairfield program at a special discounted price. Solarize Fairfield also offers residents access to special financing options that make going solar affordable with no upfront costs.”

Fairfield residents need to sign a contract by July 28, 2016 to qualify for Solarize Fairfield pricing.
