Fairfield Fire Boat Official Dedication, Sat. Aug. 16

The public is cordially invited to a dedication of Fairfield Fire Department Marine 28, the "David W. Russell Jr.", at 10:00am Saturday, August 16th at Port 5, 69 Brewster Street in Bridgeport. This will be the formal christening of the newest addition to the rescue capabilities of the department. The vessel was acquired from the Bridgeport Fire Department and named after the late Chief Russell, who passed a year ago this month.

Chief Russell's role in water rescue and emergency medical response stemmed in part from the loss of his three-year-old daughter Lauren to a drowning accident, after which he formed a Scuba Rescue Team within the department and was an early proponent for EMS within the fire service.
