Foodshare Receives a $75,000 Grant from CHEFA

Foodshare was awarded a $75,000 grant from the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) as part of its Not-for-Profit Grant Program. This support will help Foodshare distribute an additional 275,000 meals worth of healthy, fresh produce and meat to help hungry families throughout the greater Hartford region.

“The Authority is proud to support Foodshare with this $75,000 grant as it continues to provide food for our Connecticut neighbors that need a helping hand feeding their families. We know that Foodshare is using our funds in a manner that will have the greatest impact on its efforts to reduce food insecurity in the Hartford region,” says CHEFA Executive Director Jeffrey A. Asher.

CHEFA’s support last year helped Foodshare distribute over 3 million meals worth of fresh, healthy food to low-income individuals. This new grant will ensure the continuation of that vital work to meet the existing need, so that Foodshare can focus even more attention on long term solutions that will engage the community at-large in ending hunger. “We thank CHEFA for this generous grant, which will help us provide more nutritious food to hungry families throughout greater Hartford,” says Gloria McAdam, Foodshare President & CEO.

The Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority (CHEFA) recently announced $2.5 million in grants to 56 nonprofit agencies throughout the state. CHEFA is a quasi-public agency created by the State Legislature to help Connecticut healthcare and educational institutions, and other not-for-profit entities obtain tax exempt financing. CHEFA is self-sustaining and receives no taxpayer funds.
