Red Cross Assisting Hartford Residents After Weekend Fire

The American Red Cross is helping 21 people after weekend fires Friday in Bridgeport and Saturday in Hartford.

In Hartford, the Red Cross is helping 11 people – seven adults and four children in two families – after a fire Saturday, December 20, on Putnam Street. The Red Cross provided a family of two adults help with emergency housing, food and clothing needs. A family of five adults and four children received help with emergency housing and food needs, as well as stuffed animal toys for the affected children. Red Cross volunteers Larry Berman and Ann Marie Braun responded to assist the residents.

The Red Cross also provided comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items residents might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.  For more information about the Red Cross and how you can help, visit www.redcross.org.
