To-Do List, Week of September 1

Monday: Labor Day

If you have this holiday off work (and I hope you do!) why not go to a patriotic concert or a classic agricultural fair. HamletHub found some events close by.

Tuesday: Young Professionals

The World Affairs Council of Connecticut is holding a happy hour event for young professionals at Nixs on Front Street. To see more information and register, click here.

Wednesday: Old Hartford

Daniel Sterner, author of Vanished Downtown Hartford, will be speaking at the Mark Twain House tonight at 5:30 p.m. (reception begins at 5:00 p.m.) The event is free but registration is encouraged; call 860-522-9258, ext. 317.

Thursday: Sing the Blues

It’s First Thursday time again at the Wadsworth. This month’s theme is all things blue: blues music, the color blue used in the museum’s artworks, and a pop-up shop by Hartford Denim Company. It all starts at 5:00 p.m. and costs $5 for non-members.

Friday: More Happy Hour

On the first Friday of each month, Real Art Ways hosts the free event GAZE (Gay Happy Hour) http://www.realartways.org/gaze.html beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday: Jazz on the River

This year, the Ray Gonzalez Latin Jazz and Salsa Festival celebrates the music of Rafael Hernandez Marin. The free event runs from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza.

Sunday: Eating for a Cause

Stop at Bear’s Smokehouse on Arch Street for some Kansas City-style barbeque, and 20% of your bill will be donated to the Hartford Public Library.

The To-do List is a list of just a few of the many events happening in Hartford over the coming week, one for each day.
