After a successful two-month run at Gallery at The Flatz in Peekskill, the group art exhibit “Breaking Surface 2.0” is closing.
But first, on August 30th, there is the party to celebrate. On this night, from 6-8 PM the artists from “Breaking Surface 2.0” will be hosting their closing reception. The artists are also expected to honor the gallery owners, Monica Flaherty and Erik Contzius. The art will remain on the walls through the reception and the public is invited to see the works.
The exhibit, “Breaking Surface 2.0”, is a group art show in which artists explore two sides of single threshold: the border of water.
Curator Aldara Ortega’s works are in great demand since “Breaking Surface” was mounted at Galleria ‘Ca D’Oro in New York City last year. August 30 will be the last time her work is seen in Westchester in 2016. “This is a beautiful space and we’ve had a great experience at the gallery. Watching people find the wonder that artworks with water can inspire is gratifying. I’m grateful to the Peekskill community and the amazing local artists that are part of Breaking Surface 2.0, and we appreciate everything Monica and Erik have done.”
“Breaking Surface” was presented at Galleria ‘Ca D’Oro in Chelsea last year to very positive reviews. Huffington Post reporter Sacha Breitman called it a “Don’t Miss” exhibit in an August 17 article. The show at Gallery @ The Flatz was expanded early in its run because Ortega recognized the depth and richness of the art local artists were making, and thought they could make “Breaking Surface” even stronger. “We reached out through the Peekskill Arts Alliance, and honestly I was overwhelmed with the outstanding quality of work.”
The “Breaking Surface 2.0” closing reception is Tuesday, August 30 from 6-8 PM at Gallery @ The Flatz, 1008 Main Street, Peekskill, NY 10566.
